PHY 206 - Intermediate Physics II Credits: 3 Introduces the study of electricity and magnetism. Also provides an introduction to optics. Topics covered include: electricity: electric force, E-field, Gauss’ law, conductors, E- potential, capacitors and dielectrics; currents and circuits: resistance and Ohm’s Law, e.m.f’s, RC circuits; magnetism: magnetic force, Ampere’s Law, solenoids, Biot-Savart Law, motion in magnetic fields; electromagnetic induction: e.m.f’s, Faraday’s Law, inductance, RL circuits, AC Circuits; EM waves: Maxwell’s equations, EM waves and the EM spectrum; and optics: reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction of light.
Prerequisite(s): PHY 205 and MAT 211 Corequisite(s): PHY 126
