SWK 613 - Mediation in Social Work Practice Credits: 3 This elective course provides information on mediation as an alternate form of dispute resolution is continuing to rise and is being widely used in human services, corporate, labor, consumer and family issues across the United States. Students in the mediation class will focus on practical and theoretical aspects of mediation and its place in the larger framework of alternate dispute resolution for social work clients. Skills in helping parties find common ground, creating a climate for reaching agreement, aspects of confidentiality, and both directive and nondirective mediation techniques will be explored.
Prerequisite(s): SWK 531 or SWK 601 (may be taken concurrently) or permission of instructor
