TCH 609 - Research Informed Practices Credits: 3 This course serves as the capstone experience for graduate students enrolled in the C&I program (including early childhood, elementary, middle, and secondary education). It will assist students in synthesizing theory and practice as students engage in studying the action research process. The focus will be that action research is a form of self-reflective systematic inquiry which has its goals the improvement of their own personal teaching practice, a better understanding of that practice, and how their instruction can be improved. Inquiry may focus on students, instructional practices and assessment, the teacher’s underlying philosophy or belief system, or curricular issues. The major assignment for the course will be the completion of an action research project undertaken in an educational setting in which the student is engaged in professional practice.
