SOC 220 - Social Inequality Credits: 3 Examines the attributes by which individuals are hierarchically ranked (stratified) in society, the extent to which these rankings inhibit or promote opportunity for success in life, and the degree to which movement between these social strata is possible. Emphasis on using current empirical data to describe and explain the role of gender, race, and class in the stratification of American society. Basis and extent of stratification in other developed and less-developed countries also explored.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 101 or HON 161 or permission of instructor
